The United Family donates $750,000 to SPC's culinary program.

A quarter will go to scholarships and the remainder for renovations to a 10,000 square foot culinary instruction space.

The program teaches cooking and baking skills, along with business practices

"It ties in perfectly with what the high schools are doing, it ties in perfectly with what Texas Tech is doing with restaurant, hotel, institution management program, so it really bridges that gap and really gives students a new opportunity to meet the growing needs in the Lubbock region," SPC President Robin Satterwhite said.

South Plains College is targeting an Aug. 1 opening after the renovations are complete.
