Cold weekend, rain chance next week

Cold weekend, rain chance next week

LUBBOCK, Texas -

COLD FRONT: It warmed into the mid 70s across much of our area, even as warm as 80 at Post this afternoon. Now a cold front is bringing a drop in the temperature, along with the wind out of the NE. Here are the current temperature and wind maps:

TONIGHT: Low near 23, mostly clear. Wind NE 10-15mph.

COLDER WEEKEND: We should see a pretty big temperature range across the area Saturday, colder east and warmer west. High in Lubbock near 40.

high temp forecast

We expect clouds all day to the east, off of the Caprock. Here in Lubbock we'll probably see some sun, with more sun off to the west. These days are tricky. If we get lots of sun in Lubbock then it'll end up warmer than forecast.

Snow is possible around Amarillo and the Panhandle Saturday night into Sunday morning. A few flurries may make it to the northern South Plains, but it doesn't look like anything significant for our area.

Sunday will also be chilly, high near 43.

NEXT WEEK: It'll warm from the mid 50s Monday to the 70s Wednesday. The more significant difference is an upper-level storm system approaching from the west. This should draw up more humidity to our area by mid-week...which will be a change of pace. And we're actually seeing some consistency in the guidance for rain late in the week. It's only a slight chance, but let's hope this pans out. We need the rain badly.

Models are flip-flopping on whether a cold front will get here late in the week. If it does, next weekend will turn chilly again.

7-day forecast

Have a great weekend. Bobby will have a full update to the forecast Saturday afternoon.
