Suspect arrested after running from police during traffic stop

Lubbock police press release: 

Around noon today, a Lubbock Police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 4300 block of 53rd Street. The driver refused to pull over and continued driving. The officer began to pursue the vehicle, however due to the time of day and amount of traffic, the pursuit was canceled after one minute.

Another officer patrolling the area found the vehicle parked in the in the 3700 block of 53rd Street. As the officer began to approach the parked vehicle on foot, the driver got out of the vehicle and ran.

A foot pursuit was initiated and officers set up a perimeter in the area to locate the suspect. K9 units also arrived on scene to assist in locating the suspect.

After a 25 to 30 minute search, a K9 unit located the suspect and took him into custody. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Austin Hill, was transported to UMC for minor injuries. He will be booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center for an outstanding LPD warrant, evading in a motor vehicle and evading on foot.
