Future of Municipal Coliseum and Auditorium in hands of voters

Future of Municipal Coliseum and Auditorium in hands of voters

Posted: Updated:

The future of Municipal Coliseum and Auditorium will be on the May 5th ballot.

The City Council approved the referendum Thursday night.

The election is required by the city charter after council voted to abandon the facilities.

If the referendum is approved, the facilities will revert to Texas Tech.

The coliseum and auditorium, built in the 50s, have housed everything from concerts, basketball games, Broadway musicals and rodeos.

Council members say both have outlived their usefulness and are monetary drains because of the tax dollars needed for upkeep.
