Good deeds may feed the soul

Good deeds may feed the soul

LUBBOCK COUNTY, Texas -

If you're feeling stressed out, some psychiatrists say helping others may soothe your soul.

Emanuel Maidenburg, a clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of California Los Angeles claims the sheer volume of stressful events that occur on a daily basis can make people feel pessimistic or fearful. He says one way to gain control in what may feel like an uncertain world, is to explore your impact on the community. He claims you can gain a sense of control by helping others, whether it's making a donation or volunteering your time.

And he recommends, when you have down time, do more leisure activities outside, get more exercise and maintain a consistent sleep schedule.
