Opening statements for double-murder trial begin Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

Opening statements begin tomorrow in the capital murder trial for the man accused of shooting and killing his estranged common law wife and her boyfriend.

Investigators say David Carrillo, 32, got into 27-year-old Jennifer Cruz's home near 44th and Slide by sneaking in through the bathroom window.

Court documents indicate he told police he was going to confront her new boyfriend, 30-year-old Albert Martinez about threats the victim sent on Facebook.

Carrillo reportedly told police he shot both Cruz and Martinez when they "came at him."

The trial starts at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
