Quiet pattern continues, warmer this weekend

LUBBOCK, Texas -

It climbed above 32 degrees at the Lubbock airport at 9:29 this morning, first time since 7:53 Saturday morning. That's 97 hours 36 minutes, according to the National Weather Service. That's a long stretch for our area. But the record holds at 207 hours in December 1983.

This afternoon it's warmed nicely into the 50s. Most of the nation is pretty quiet with northwesterly flow aloft across our region...a pattern that keeps things quiet here. It's not quiet out east, though, with a powerful winter storm moving up the Eastern Seaboard. Winter storm warnings now run from the Carolinas into New England, blizzard warnings farther NE.

TONIGHT: A few clouds, low 20. Wind S/SW 5-10mph.

low temperature forecast

THURSDAY: Some clouds early in the day, with a few sprinkles or real light showers possible well southwest of Lubbock. High near 51, wind S 5-12mph.

high temp forecast

EXTENDED FORECAST: Friday will warm to the upper 50s, then 60s return this weekend. A storm system will pass north of our area, which will kick the wind up Sunday. At this point looks like the wind will be sustained above 25mph.

It'll be slightly cooler behind that storm system on Monday, high in the upper 50s. It looks dry here through the middle of next week.

7-day forecast

Have a great rest of your day. Whitney will have a full update to the forecast early tomorrow morning.
