7-day forecast

posted 10:55 a.m. Sunday - We've had some freezing drizzle and light snow in the area last night into this morning. For the most part it looks like things are playing out like forecast...not a lot of precipitation, but enough that there could be some icy patches on bridges. The precipitation in our area is too light to significantly show on radar. The National Weather Service will extend the winter weather advisory through 3 p.m. Sunday for periods of real light snow.

This is a TXDOT cam image from around 10 a.m. in Lubbock. We've seen traffic moving well through the morning here. You still need to watch for icy patches.

There have been greater issues with icy roads in North Texas. And parts of Central Texas could get icy roads later tonight. Click here for the latest from TXDOT.

REST OF TODAY: Drier air will build in behind the front that moved through early this morning. This will bring the drizzle/light snow to an end during the afternoon. The temperature was in the upper 20s ahead of the front. It's now dropped into the teens and won't move much rest of the day.

current temperature

The wind will only gradually diminish. It's been up around 15-20mph, will drop off some by late afternoon.

current wind

Combine those two and this is the current wind chill/"feel like":

current wind chill

TONIGHT: Very cold to ring in the New Year. The wind chill should be below 0 at Midnight. Low temp tonight in the mid single digits, wind chill -5 to -15 across the area.

NEXT FEW DAYS: Not much movement on the temperature tomorrow, despite some sun. High in the lower 20s. High near 30 Tuesday. The second half of the week will trend warmer.
