Early baldness and heart problems possibly connected

Men who lose their hair relatively early in life may be at an increased risk for heart problems. The study involved 2,000 men younger than 40 who were all either prematurely gray or experienced male-pattern baldness at a young age.

After adjusting for age and other cardiovascular risk factors, investigators concluded that both male-pattern baldness and premature graying were associated with more than a five times greater risk of developing heart disease.

While no one knows why baldness or premature graying are linked to heart disease risk, the team believes these factors may indicate biological instead of chronological age which may be important in determining cardiovascular risk.
