UPDATE: Man dead, one person in custody after north Lubbock shooting

Lubbock Police tell us Isaias Rodriguez has died at the hospital and that Daniel Rangel is charged with murder.

(LUBBOCK, TX) – One person is in custody and another is in the hospital with life threatening injuries after a shooting in the 2500 block of Amherst Street Wednesday morning.

At approximately 11 a.m. on November 29th, Lubbock Police received calls of gunshots fired in the area of 2500 Amherst Street. Officers located 34-year-old Isaias Rodriguez lying in the street with a gunshot wound. He was transported to University Medical Center with serious injuries.

Just moments after arriving on scene, officers were able to locate two possible suspects. Both individuals were taken to the Lubbock Police Department to be questioned. One of the individuals was released after questioning. The other, 19-year-old Daniel Rangel, was arrested for aggravated assault.

At this time, it appears the shooting was a result of an ongoing dispute between two groups of people. Both the victim and arrestee live in the same neighborhood, however detectives are still investigating the relationship between the two.


Detectives with the Persons Crimes Unit will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident and the events that led up to the shooting.

Officers received a call that shots had been fired in the 2500 block of Amherst Street just after 11 a.m.

When officers arrived, they located a 34-year-old male gunshot victim lying in the middle of the street. 

Two possible suspects are in custody, and their possible involvement is still being investigated at this time.

Police say it appears there was some sort of altercation between the victim and suspects.
